Many porn addicts view their actions as victimless crimes. No one is getting hurt, after all, right? Wrong, dead wrong! Police blotters and psychiatrist’s couches are overflowing with evidence that both porn actor and porn addict are suffering serious damage through their involvement in this behavior.
From a spiritual standpoint, pornography addiction is a form of idolatry and with idolatry comes demonic oppression and all manner of evil. Pornography addiction is the practice of sexual immorality, (whether it be lusting in the heart or in person), which God’s Word says is idolatry. “Among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity . . . such a man is an idolater and has no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.” (Ephesians 5:3-5) The kingdom of God is righteousness, joy and peace in the Holy Ghost (Romans 14:17). Idolatry stands in opposition to that and prevents the joy and peace that are available in the Kingdom of God from becoming a part of your life. Instead of experiencing daily righteousness, joy and peace, you will experience the death and oppression that is associated with pornography addiction, which the Bible calls bondage.
Pornography addiction is associated with failed marriages and relationships, separation from loved ones, lost finances, lost careers, and a lost relationship with God and the people of God. Sin separates us from God and the blessings of God. There is a curse associated with pornography, as many of the pictures are of children and teens who have been forced through kidnapping, drugs, and rape to pose for the pictures that are being viewed. Adults are also often forced to pose for these pictures as well. Over 85% of pornography, in fact, is financed by organized crime. And so the powers of evil lurk behind pornography addiction and viewing and purchasing such images is an act of funding extortion, violence and perversion.
The good news is that the Bible says that a curse without a cause cannot stand and that Jesus became a curse for us (Galatians 3:17). We can only be delivered from the effects of pornography addiction by repenting and receiving Jesus Christ’s atonement for sins and curses.
Pornography addiction is something that can be overcome through the power of the Cross and through the help of those who have the spiritual tools needed for overcoming addiction and bondages of evil. You can step out of pornography addiction by repenting and by grabbing hold of the power of Jesus to overcome evil. Greater is He who is in you then he who is in the world. (I John 4:4) The power to overcome is achievable through Jesus Christ only.
